He also sheds light on the activities of his agency, the achievements of the state government in the area of road rehabilitation and maintenance.
WHat is OSARMCO doing in the area of road maintenance in the state?
Our target is to maintain all roads in Ondo State. We also respond to emergency road needs. There could be flooding, damage to culverts and roads among others; we respond day and night to all these challenges. We do intervention on short roads improvement. We are an improvement on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). We told FERMA that look,11 labourers electrocuted at govt project site in, the government also gave us the power to monitor, and this makes it mandatory that contractors must perform because there is no hiding place. But, when somebody is a contractor in Yenagoa and you give him project here in Ondo State, overhead and mobilisation alone, and what we call the preliminary, which means for him to mobilise his equipment, get accommodation, staffing and other things to work here,Carbon fiber hood, over head and preliminary will be difficult. So all these will amount to failure. We told FERMA management that they should not do that. We also told them that they don’t even need to get contractors to be doing those jobs. If they are FERMA, they should do the job by direct labour. In Ondo State, we do most of our jobs by direct labour. For example, I alone employed not less than 550 labourers everyday: Labourers to do digging, Concrete Mixing Station, carpentery work,DICE sees significant sales jump, form works, bending of irons,Killing Spree in Slovakia Taps Into a Troubled Vei, casting of concrete, labourers to operate heavy and light weight equipment,Six held over ¥570 million wire scheme, asphalt cutters, peeling of failed section of roads, driving of asphalt roller etc.
