Warriors will spend most of their talent points in the Protection tree. There are a few options we can choose and a lot of ways to tweak the build depending if you are going to be doing AoE Tanking or Single Target tanking. Inside each of those options you can also choose things for Raid Boss tanking or Raid AoE tanking. The Warrior has a variety of talents and skills for a bunch of different scenarios.

There’s not a whole lot of excitement or versatility when it comes to Druid Tanking Builds. You’ll spend almost all of your points in the Feral Tree, the talents you won’t get will be ones that Cats primarily used. There won’t be a great variation of talent builds between AoE and Single Target tanking as the other classes have. Druids are pretty straight forward, this will also cut down on the glyph options as well.

There’s essentially two things you want to know when choosing the talent builds that best suits your play style as a tank for a Paladin. That’s whether or not you’re going to be AoE Intensive Tank, a Raid Boss Tank, or perhaps a mixture of both. Regardless of what your passion is, you’re going to be spending most of your points in the protection tree.

Warriors like Paladins have the ability to dodge, block, and parry. The difference between a Paladin and Warrior in terms of melee tanking stats is that Warriors get a bigger bonus from Strength and less of a Bonus from Agility as Paladins do, otherwise they are virtually the same stats with those variations.

According to polls the most favored tank to group with is the Paladin. Unlike the Death Knight and Druid, Paladins are able to wear a shield and block attacks like Warriors. Therefore, Block Rating and Strength play a factor in tanking. Unfortunately, there aren’t currently gems that offer Block Rating, and the Stat Strength is so weak in comparison to the other stats for tanking, that we will mostly avoid using any.

Death Knights are the only class that can legitimately tank out of any tree they want. I am going to share with you two of the better builds from the Blood and Frost trees for tanking. There are infinite builds but these have worked well for me in the past. There are commonalities in talents though no matter what tree is your primary, such as 5 points in anticipation and 5 points in Toughness. 5 points in Blade Barrier too is usually recommended.

Death Knights mitigation abilities include dodge and parry. LIke the Druid they are not able to wear a shield so Block and Block rating will serve no purpose. This also means that stacking strength will not help your mitigation although it will help threat by increasing attack power. Your main tanking stats then are doing to be Defense, Parry, Dodge, Agility, Armor, and Stamina.

Druids are only capable of dodging attacks, they rely on their dodge, high armor, and high hitpoints to make up in areas where other tanks excel. They make excellent tanks against caster bosses due to their high hitpoints and do fairly well in heavy melee fights although they lack a lot of the mitigation of some of the other tanks. However, Druid Tanks work very well to tank just about all content, raids and instances, while undergeared, they will struggle against raid bosses in the end game if they remain undergeared but are really solid tanks.

These macros are primarily for a Frost Tank as they use abilities you can only get in the Frost tree such as Howling Blast and Frost Strike. You can modify them to fit whichever tree you’re tanking from fairly easily just by being aware of what runes each skill uses.

I’ve only had one macro for the Paladin and it hasn’t really changed since Wrath has came out because it’s worked so well. It works well for 5 mans, AoE Pulls, Raids, you name it. One thing I’m noticing is starting to be a problem witha 5k plus gear score is that if I run a heroic, the mobs aren’t able to hit me enough that I need heals at all which in 1on1 situations sanctuary is unable to keep my mana up so I’m always out of mana it seems and have to switch to seal of wisdom for some pulls.
